Why is Rebecca such a magical book?
Because writer Du Maurier delivers the details with such brilliance.
In the opening chapter, the heroine sees Manderley in a dream. Readers are enticed to follow the heroine down a (rather spooky) path, while Du Maurier enlivens what would otherwise just be half-dead plants into an army of soldiers.
